ID: GC_Moran4845.jpg East Rim of the Grand Canyon at Moran Point (7,160 ft high). In the foreground on the left, the red canyon wall is rust Hermit Shale Formation (280 million years ago = m.y.a.), pinkish red of the Supai Group (315-285 m.y.a.) and red Redwall Limestone (340 m.y.a.). In the foreground on the right, the gray rock is Kaibab Limestone (270 million years ago). The ridge starting on the far right and emanating to the center of the photo is not named but starts at Lipan Point (7,360 ft high). The green above the ridge is vegetation growing in a wash on the canyon basin. The Colorado River is at an elevation of 2,450 ft high and started carving through the rock layers of the Grand Canyon 5 or 6 million years ago.
