ID: GCSnow2962.jpg South Rim of the Grand Canyon at Hopi Point (6,800 ft high) with ebony rock layer at river level known as Vishnu Basement Rocks formed almost 2 billion years ago. The Colorado River, visible on the basin of the canyon, started carving the Grand Canyon 5 or 5 million years ago. The ivory white snow on the rust rocks in the foreground, known as Hermit Shale, completes the ebony and ivory view of the Grand Canyon.
