The gray rock is Kaibab Limestone and Toroweap Formation from 270 million years ago (m.y.a.). They are paleozoic sedimentary rock formed from marine life at sea level when Arizona was beachfront property and had an ocean view. The yellow rock is Coconino Sandstone from 275 m.y.a. Sandstone is formed from hardened sand dunes. The red rock is Supai Group formed 315 -285 m.y.a.
